Barwon
Prison is a maximum security prison for males located in Lara, 7km from
Geelong. Barwon Prison is reputed for its safety and security, where you will
be joining a highly reputable and skilled team once your 8 weeks paid training
is completed. When joining Barwon Prison, you have the ability to demonstrate
your skills and experience, and develop your career within Corrections and the
Department of Justice and Regulation.
You

resilience and confidence means you take any setbacks in your stride.
If
this is the right role for you then you’ll be given 8 weeks full training with
approximately 20 new team mates to ensure that you are prepared and have the
right skills to build a successful and rewarding career with us.
Your
day-to-day responsibilities include:
  • working
    on a 24/7 rotating roster (with penalty rates)
  • assisting
    with the safety and security of prisoners, your team mates and visitors.
  • being
    assigned a caseload of prisoners; to assist them in achieving their personal
    and professional goals. You will be required to liaise with other areas of
    the department when required such as different programs to assist in each
    prisoner’s individual goals.
  • being
    involved in your assigned prisoner’s Individual Management Plans, ensuring
    that the programs they are participating in are linked to their needs and
    goals.
  • conducting
    regular patrols, searches and security related activities aligned with our
    policies and procedures that you will be trained in.
  • building
    relationships with your team mates and other stakeholders, contributing
    towards a positive and enjoyable working environment.
  • being
    a key contributor to making a positive influence on the prisoners you
    liaise with, and being a key contributor to assisting these individuals
    reintegrate positively back into society on their release.
What
skills & experience do you need?
Your
life experience is valued in this role. We know that good prison officers come
from a variety of backgrounds and bring a range of work experience and skills. 
No previous experience in a similar role or any particular qualifications are
required. We also strongly encourage both females and males to apply. We look

Working
for Corrections Victoria, you will have a guaranteed full time ongoing
position, with plenty of professional development opportunities. This includes
secondments into different areas of both Corrections Victoria and the
Department of Justice and Regulation. You will also be entitled to annual
performance base salary increases and opportunities down the track to purchase
8 weeks of additional leave per annum.
