MUST BE FLEXIBLE FOR SHIFT COVERAGE – 3 DAY SHIFTS, 3 EVENING SHIFTS, 3 DAYS OFF; BASED ON A 9 WEEK ROTATION. ON CALL 6 NIGHTS (23:00-07:15) EVERY 27 DAYS
Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, this position operates and maintains the facility’s physical plant in a safe, clean and sanitary condition, ensuring that all utility, electrical and mechanical systems are fully operational. Performs all security related functions for the facility as required in order to foster a safe and secure environment for all residents.
The ideal candidate will possess general knowledge of building maintenance with a minimum grade twelve (12) education. Professional Registration/ Certifications required: Must have valid current certification with ABSA for new 4th Class Engineer or Operator “A” ticket. Any trade Certificate would be an asset. Minimum 3-5 years experience as a Building Operator in the maintenance and repair field preferable in a hospital or large facility environment. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. Knowledge of shop mathematics, blue print and specifications reading and implementation. Proven work organization abilities. Must have a strong working knowledge of fire codes; building codes, Pressure Vessel act and general safety regulations. Good judgment and trouble shooting skills. Ability to use a variety of testing equipment, hand and power tools. Must be familiar with C.S.A. Standards as the affect mechanical installations, equipment and construction for hospitals and resident care areas. Proven work organization abilities. Good verbal and written communications skills in English. Good interpersonal skills. Must have a valid class 5 driver’s license.
