The company commenced operations in Australia through the acquisition of the Nifty Copper Operation in the East Pilbara region of Western Australia where the company has now developed a large scale underground mine and concentrator. Aditya Birla Minerals is aggressively pursuing further growth opportunities within the country that is expected to see the company become one of the most significant mining houses in Australia. The company has established its Australian head office in West Perth.
The role is a rostered fly in/fly out position commuting from Cairns or Townsville. The onsite accommodation facilities include swimming pool, recreation room, tennis/basketball court, gymnasium and wireless internet.
Drill and Blast Engineer
A unique opportunity exists to join Birla Mt Gordon Operations as an underground Drill & Blast Engineer.
Your accountabilities will include:
• Provide stope drill and blast designs in a timely manner for stoping blocks.
• Maintain Quality Assurance standards and practices by conducting audit checks and inspections of drilling and blasting requirements.
• Collection, collation and reporting of mine physical data on a daily basis.
• Fulfil statutory responsibility of explosive magazine controller (surface & underground).
• Update all plans and weekly production schedules/graphs and any other relevant performance monitoring measures on a daily basis.
• Ensuring continuous improvement by liaising with operators and Supervisors for practical plans, Geologists to ensure maximum economic extraction of Copper and Surveyors & production staff to ensure demarcation of stopes designs are clear and concise.
• Prepare short-term production, long hole drilling and development schedules.
• Complete detailed design requirements for drain holes, service holes, detailed development layouts for stopes, slot rises and ventilation raise design.
• Maintenance of various data/records related to mining activities including cost control and maintaining the budget.
• Liaising with operators and coordinating with Supervisors as well as training and mentoring of staff where required.
To be considered for this role, it is highly desirable that you are able to demonstrate the following experience, skills and abilities:
• Degree in Mining Engineering
• Experience in an underground mining operating environment
• Sound working knowledge of all relevant mining requirements and legislation of Queensland.
• High level ability in analysis / problem solving, planning and organising ability
• Mine planning packages (Mine 2-4D, Datamine, Surpac, Ringking)
We offer an 8/6 FIFO roster ex Cairns or Townsville or DIDO ex Mount Isa. Relocation assistance will be offered to Cairns, Townsville or Mount Isa.
