Background Study on Flooding and Its Health Implication on Man and His Environment

Ajayi (2003) defined flood as a very large amount
of water that has a flow from a source such as river or a broken pipe on a
piece of land that had been relatively dry.
Oxford Advance Learners Dictionary 8th
Edition defined flood as a large amount of water covering an area that is
usually dry. It is very important to note that the significance of the
environment to man cannot be over-emphasized that is why drastic measures must
be taken to prevent it from excessive destructive flooding. It brings to mind
the ways and manner buildings are constructed and the natural and traditional
waterways coupled with improper management of drainage system and some parts of
the town lack of drainage system which is the major cause of flooding in the
town.

Flood is a temporary rise of water level as in a
river or lake or along a seacoast resulting in its spilling over and out of its
natural or artificial contents out land that is normally dry. Floods are
usually caused by excessive run off from precipitation or snow-melt, or by
coastal storm surges or other tidal phenomena flood are sometimes disturbed
according to their statistical occurrence. Flood is large bodies of water a great
overwhelm living quantity. Flood is a natural occurrence that has an adverse
health implication on the people and the environment.
Flooding simply means excess of water in a
place. Flood can be refers as an overflow of an expanse of water that submerges
land. This could be as a result of artificial of natural causes which are in
most cases destructive.
Implications of flood because of dramatic
changes of weather and unprecedented rainfall, many areas are under water with
adverse consequences to human lives.
