The
Refugee & Immigration Legal Centre Inc. (RILC) is an independent community
legal centre specialising in refugee and immigration law, policy and practice.
RILC has been assisting asylum seekers, refugees and disadvantaged migrants in
the community and in detention for over 26 years and has substantial casework
experience and expertise. RILC’s work involves provision of key legal
assistance to those who could not otherwise obtain it due to financial and
other forms of distinct disadvantage often related to their cultural or
linguistically diverse backgrounds or experiences of torture or trauma. Each
year RILC assists over 5,000 people. RILC also conducts extensive law reform,
advocacy and education programs.

Summary
Summary
Volunteers
make a major contribution to RILC’s legal casework and advice services. Their
commitment represents a vital component of the Centre’s ability to address the
acute unmet legal need in the immigration and refugee areas. RILC is actively
developing its volunteer program in line with increasing unmet legal need due
to significant changes in law and policy.

Volunteers

of immigration advice and assistance - assistance
with administrative and research tasks
The
Volunteer Coordinator will be responsible for ensuring the volunteer program is
adequately resourced and operates effectively and efficiently. S/he will
coordinate all volunteer related activities including recruitment, selection,
training, rostering and support of volunteers.

Volunteer Coordinator reports directly to the RILC Executive Director who is
responsible to the RILC Committee of Management.
