Metro Trains Melbourne, is a consortium of three leading rail industry
organisations: Hong Kong’s MTR Corporation, Australia’s John Holland Group and
UGL Rail, a division of United Group Limited. These shareholders have a long
and successful history of working together, bringing their expertise to both
local and international rail industry projects.
The Role
This role will provide technical expertise on fire related design and
construction issues, specifically smoke management systems in tunnels on
specific Franchise, State rail and Third party projects. It will necessitate
the bringing together of Australian Standards and MTM’s requirements as an
operator, plus assisting the Public Transport Victoria. The role will need to
ensure OHS&E, quality, cost, time and scope parameters of the projects are
adequately defined and achieved.
Primary responsibilities
include:
- Liaison
with Fire Authorities and other regulators on tunnel smoke extraction and
fire safety issues and achieve agreement on the most appropriate course of
action that meets pre-determined project requirements. - Preparation
of functional and technical fire engineering and tunnel smoke extraction
specifications. - Work
effectively with relevant stakeholders internal and external to the
business. - Lead
the detailed planning of design and construction activities for specific
project activities, as assigned by the Project Manager. - Identify
work practices, methods and activities that can be altered or improved. - Manage
individual packages of work on the project, as assigned by the Project
Manager, through the complete project life cycle. - Work
with multi-discipline teams, coordinating inputs and reaching a decision
for the benefit of the project. - Manage
the administration and control of Contract Instructions, in conjunction
with the Project Manager, ensuring that any change of scope, direction to
proceed, site instruction etc. is given to the Contractor(s) in writing
and correctly documented.
About you
- You
will be a seasoned professional, ideally with previous tunnel smoke
management system and rail experience with engineering qualifications to
match. You will be comfortable working across a large team and will
demonstrate: - Experience
in the design, construction, management and/or maintenance of fire safety
and smoke management systems for tunnel and underground based projects. - Demonstrated
experience in fire engineering and tunnel smoke extraction principles. - In-depth
understanding of the implementation of relevant fire safety legislation. - Ability
to prepare and assess functional and technical fire engineering and tunnel
smoke extraction specifications. - Ability
to prepare detailed tender design and construction documentation. - Innovative
in design, use of novel methods and critical thinking. - Understanding
of common conditions of contractual terms, documentation, and tendering
bid process. - Working
knowledge of estimating and direct costing to user briefs, technical
requirements and safety. - Understanding
of commercial business operations.Interpreting and managing internal and
external stakeholder specifications and requirements. - Time
management and awareness of meeting deadlines and deliverables
