NOTICE FOR THE RECRUITMENT OF GWLM PROJECT STAFF

Background
The Government of Rwanda (GOR) as expressed in its vision 2020 is pursuing a comprehensive Economic Development and Poverty Reduction Strategy. Agriculture is considered as an engine that drives the economy. For this purpose, the Government of Rwanda through the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Resources in concentration with other Ministries and Government agencies has developed the Gishwati Water and Land Management (GWLM) project in order to implement a comprehensive and sustainable land use and water management technologies which will not only contribute to the environment conservation of the area but also to the improvement of livelihoods of communities in the project site.

This project lies between Nyabihu and Rubavu Districts. It includes the Nyakiliba, Bigogwe, Kanzenze, and Kanama sectors of the Nyabihu district and Rambura, Karago and Jenda sectors the Rubavu District.
It is in this regard that the Ministry of Agriculture and animal resources wishes to recruit subject matter specialists stationed at Bigogwe in Nyabihu District to be serving as knowledge house for successful implementation of the GWLM Project. In addition, the team is suggested to serve the harmonization of plans, technologies and implementation modalities of GWLM Project. The Project wishes to recruit qualified and competent following field key personnel in order to have a daily close follow-up of the Project activities:

Job description
Directly report to the field Coordinator, the Land husbandry technologies Extensionnists will have the following responsibilities:
• Making sure that GWLM activities in the project site are implemented in a watershed approach;
• Assist the project beneficiaries in preparation of forest and agro forestry seed bank in the project site;
• Integrating and guiding the relevant staffs of the targeted Districts and Sectors in the delineation of the entire watershed into land-use categories and land sensitivity units Advice on suitable agro forestry and forestry practices in the project site;
• Assist the project field office to respond to the technical support requests from the Community-Based Groups (CBG), and other beneficiaries of the project in terms of watershed management issues;
• Ensuring that there is systematic technical supervision of the land husbandry works and supervise the consulting firms and other service providers;
• Participate actively in data collection and gathering from field;
• Conducting additional duties as instructed by the high ranked authority.

Qualifications and Experience Requirement
• At least a degree in Watershed management, Soil and Environmental management, Water and soil management, Forestry Ecosystem Management; Community Forestry and Agro forestry;
• A minimum of 1 year experience in Land husbandry technologies implementation;
• Working experience with the rural communities in developing interventions;
• Ability to work under pressure and to coordinate and link with multi-disciplinary teams;
• Fluency in technical report writing;
• Ability to use different measuring tools, like clinometers, Auger, GPS…
• Proven competence in the use of computer software applications including spreadsheet programs;
• Ability to communicate in English or/ and French + Kinyarwanda.
