Principal
Duties and Responsibilities
Duties and Responsibilities
- Under
the direction of the Classroom Instruction Advisor, work closely with
government counterparts (in all activities) to support the development of
effective systems of teacher professional development to support P1-P3
Kinyarwanda teachers to effectively teach their students to learn to read
(including the effective use of assessment). All activities should be in
line with the project’s approved work plan. - Support
the development of district and sector continuing professional development
(CPD) committees (DCCs and SCCs) (coordinating closely with provincial and
district advisors). - Work
with ICT Advisor to devise and implement evidence-based, sustainable ICT
solutions to enhance teacher CPD. - Support
the development and introduction of tools (or use of existing tools) for
head teachers (in partnership with the School Leadership Specialist) and
mentors to use in supporting teacher CPD. - Under
the guidance of the Classroom Instruction Advisor, lead coordination of
project subcontractor activities designed to foster improved teacher
in-service education (coordinate closely with the pre-service specialist). - Support
the incorporation of REB-approved teacher standards, principals of effective
literacy instruction, and P1-P3 literacy standards into CPD, and support
their communication to district-level education sector staff, head
teachers, and teachers. - Conduct
other duties as assigned by the chief of party.

Qualifications
Qualifications
- 5-10
years of experience strengthening teacher professional development among
primary grade teachers (experience with P1-P3 teachers preferred). - Master’s
degree in education or similar relevant field is preferred. A combination
of a bachelor’s degree and the required number of years’ work experience
may substitute for a Master’s degree. - Successful
experience designing and implementing innovative strategies to strengthen
teacher CPD. - Prior
experience working with REB, MINEDUC, and/or regional TTCs required. - Experience
working with international development sector organizations and/or donor
agencies is preferred. - Must
be familiar with USAID Education Strategy and associated documents
(Technical Notes, Implementation Guidance, and Reference Materials). - Experience
promoting equity in learning outcomes among boys, girls, and children with
special needs preferred. - Familiarity
with the Rwandan education sector is required. - Demonstrated
exemplary diplomatic, communication, and interpersonal skills as well as
versatility and integrity. - Written
and spoken proficiency in English and Kinyarwanda
