What Albion coach, Graham Potter said after Super Eagles defender, Leon Balogun signs permanent deal with Wigan

Leon Balogun, the Nigerian defender, has completed a move to Wigan Athletic after his successful loan spell at the club.

Since his loan transfer in January, Balogun, 31, has inspired Wigan, helping the Latics achieve four clean sheets in six Championship matches and push away from the relegation zone.

In the summer of 2018 Balogun joined Albion and made a total of 12 appearances. In a 3-1 victory over Crystal Palace, he scored one goal for the club, a volley with his first touch.

Balogun, who found it difficult to make first-team chances this season at Brighton and Hove Albion, making just one start in Bristol Rovers’ EFL Cup win, has now decided on a permanent contract with Wigan.

Albion manager Graham Potter has said that, “Leon has always been extremely professional and good to work with during my time at the club, but he was finding it hard to get the game time he would have liked.

“So the loan move to Wigan seemed to be a good move for everyone involved, and he has made a really positive impact there.

“We would like to thank him for his contribution over the last couple of years and we wish him all the best for the next chapter of his career.”
