Introductory Concept to Flooding

Flood is a natural occurrence that has an adverse
health implication on people and the environment. Flooding simply means excess
of water in a place. Flood can be refers as an overflow of an expanse of water
that submerges land. This could be as a result of artificial of natural causes
which are in most cases destructive.

Report from most parts of the native paints a gloomy
picture of devastating implications of flood. Because of the dramatic changes
of weather and unprecedented rainfall many areas under water with adverse
consequences for human lives.
Ajayi (2003) define flood as a very large amount of
water that has a flow from a source such as river or a broken pipe on a piece
of land that had been relatively dry.
Online dictionary define flood as an overflowing of a
large amount of water beyond its normal content, especially over what is
normally dry land.
Flood as a temporary rise of water level as in a river
or lake or along a seacoast resulting in its spilling over and out of its
natural or artificial contents out land that is normally dry. Floods are
usually caused by excessive run off from precipitation or snow-melt, or by
coastal storm surges or other tidal phenomena flood are sometimes disturbed
according to their statistical occurrence. Flood is large bodies of water a great
overwhelm living quantity.
Dictionary online stated
that floods are caused by whether phenomena and events that deliver more
precipitation to a drainage basin than can be readily absorbed or stored within
the basin, went further to define flood as an overflow or mundation that comes
from a river or other body of water and caused or threatens damage. Any
relatively high stream flow overtopping the natural or artificial banks in any
reach of a stream. It is very important to note that the significant of the
environment to man cannot be over emphasizes that is why drastic measure must
be taken to prevent it from excessive destructive flooding.
