Prevention of rape and its stigma on female

The stigma of being rape can make survivors feel as if they’re getting
rape all over again.  The stigma of rape
all over again, the stigma of rape is so ingrained in American culture; people
frequently don’t even realize that their comments and reaction humiliate sexual
assault victims.

Bethany Rivet, a rape survivor who shared her experience with the stigma
of rape on women’s view on News says “when I told people I been raped, I was
face with reactions of utter discomfort. 
Some people were scared to discuss it, some didn’t make eye contact
while other said the necessary things in order to move on and change
conversation.

She goes on to explain that these people didn’t realize how they made
her feel, but their reactions gave rise to strong feelings of shame and
embarrassment.
i)                   
Ensure that a sexual assault victim receives the
necessary medical treatment and tests, at no expense to the victim.
ii)                 
Provide the opportunity for collection of evidence
helpful in prosecution, which cannot be obtained later (Ideal of a victim of
sexual assault should not wash, douche, use the toilet or change clothing prior
to a medical / legal exam).
iii)                
Assure the victim has access to free confidential
counseling from counselors specifically trained in the area of sexual
misconduct may be prosecuted criminally in the court system and may be
suspended.   Additionally, the victim
should be referral to a specialist, who will direct them to the appropriate
counselor.
v    Avoid isolated settings, when you are dating a new person, go to public
places or go with other people.
v    Be suspicious if drugs or alcohol are being forced on you, these can be
used to decrease your defenses and reactions.
v    Carry enough money to take a cab home if you have to get away carry
change in case you need to use a pay phone.
v    Tell someone the name of your date and where you are going.
v    Stay around other people.
v    When you are in a party, do not share drink with anyone.
v    Avoid accepting rides from new acquaintance.
v    Avoid indecent dressing that can show part of your body.
v    If someone offers you a drink from the bar, accompany that person to the
bar to order you drink watch it being poured and carry it yourself.
