research work assessed flooding and its implication on human’s health and
environment of Okwagbe Town, in Ughelli South Local Government Area, Delta
State. In order to have a broader understanding, four study objectives were
drawn for the study which includes: to find out if any disease exists due to
flooding in Okwagbe town, to examine damages caused by flooding in Okwagbe
town, to know the factors that determine the occurrence of flooding in Okwagbe
town and
to know the role played by government and non – governmental agencies
in salvaging flooding in Okwagbe town. The descriptive survey method was
employed for the research study. The stratified and simple random sampling
techniques was used to obtain a sample size of one hundred (100) respondents
from a targeted population of one thousand (1000) persons. Data were collected
through the use of a well structured questionnaire and oral interview and data
collected was analyzed using descriptive statistics and chi – square method.
The study reveals that diseases exist in Okwagbe town due to flooding in the
community, the damage caused by flooding in the community includes destruction
of farm lands, contamination of water sources, and government have not play any
role.
