To find the CG of a Lamina of any shape we make use
of a plumb line (i.e. thread with a small heavy weight tied to one end). Holes are made near the edge of the lamina at
about three different locations e.g A, B, C, as shown in diagram below. The lamina is hung so that it can swing free
form a smooth horizontal support such as a stout pin passing through the hole
at A near the edge of the lamina. The
plumbline is then suspended for the same pin at A and its vertical line through
A is then drawn on the lamina. The
procedure is repeated by suspending the lamina and the plumbline from two other
well spaced points B and C. The vertical
lines along the plumbline are marked out.
