The study is based on the assessment of the
implication of environmental degradation in Afiesere community in Ughelli North
Local Government Area of Delta State.

A sample size of two hundred and fifty (250) was adopted for this study. The sampling was
carried out using the stratified and simple random sampling techniques. The
community was stratified into 3 strata which represent the number of quarters
in Afiesere. One hundred (100) persons were randomly selected each from two of
the quarters that has the larger population (Okwarho and Ehe), while fifty persons
were randomly selected which form the quarter with the lesser population
(Urhie). From each of the stratum, the simple random sampling technique was adopted
by using the ballot method to select the respondents. A ballot non-replacement
method was used to select the subject for the study.

marked “Yes” (accepted) and “No” (not accepted) which was wrapped and shuffled
after which the population was asked to pick one each. Anyone who picks a piece
of paper containing “Yes” becomes one of the respondents while all those who
pick a piece of paper containing “No” was not accepted as a respondent. This procedure
was repeated until the desired sample size was obtained.
