Abstract
This research work assessed the impact of improper
usage of pesticides on the inhabitant of Obiaruku in Ukwuani Local Government
Area, Delta State. In order to have a broader understanding, four (4)
objectives were drawn for the study which includes: to ascertain the level of
awareness on the use of pesticides on the people of Obiaruku community, to
examine the consequences of pesticides on farm products and the environment, to
examine the health implication of pesticides on humans and to find possible
measures to reduce the health implications of pesticides on man and its
environment. The descriptive survey method was adopted for this study. The
stratified and simple sampling technique was used to select a sample size of
200 respondents from a target population of 2,000 persons. Data was collected
using structured questionnaire and personal observation. Data collected were
analysed using frequency distribution tables, percentages and chi-square
statistical method. The findings obtained from the study revealed that the
people of Obiaruku are aware of pesticide usage and that pesticides have impact
on the inhabitants of Obiaruku community. There, individuals should take
cognizance of the effect of pesticides to prevent the negative impact of
pesticide.
