Henry Bertie and Florence Mabel Gritton Research Scholarships in Chemistry in Australia

University of Sydney
is funding postgraduate research scholarships in chemistry. The Gritton
Scholarships are awarded to candidates enrolling full time in a higher degree
by research and are intended to promote the knowledge and study of
chemistry. The scholarship is tenable at the University of Sydney and is
awarded on the basis of academic merit and appropriateness of proposed programs
of research. Graduates of universities who are members of the Association of
Commonwealth Universities, graduates of any country who are citizens of a
Commonwealth country or Australian permanent residents are eligible for
this scholarship. 19th July 2013 is the closing date for applications.

Eligibility: The Gritton Scholarships

The Henry Bertie and Florence Mabel Gritton Research Scholarships are tenable
at The University of Sydney only and may be awarded at postdoctoral or
postgraduate level. The following are extracts from the conditions of award
pertaining to the postgraduate scholarships.he Gritton Scholarships are awarded
to candidates enrolling full time in a higher degree by research and are
intended to promote the knowledge and study of chemistry in relation to
industry and agriculture, including chemistry connected with electrical
engineering, metallurgical chemistry and chemistry in its application to mining
and the winning treatment of minerals and natural products of the soil. A
scholarship at postgraduate level:
(a) may be awarded only to an applicant who is eligible for admission to
candidature for a higher degree by research and who enrols accordingly.
(b) may be awarded in two categories:
i. Gritton University Medallist Award – to be awarded, on application, to a
University of Sydney Medallist who is enrolled full-time in a PhD program. The
award is normally made in the second year of candidature, subject to
satisfactory progress, and is for one year only. The value of the award is to be
determined annually and is irrespective of the nature of any other awards the
medallist may hold.
ii. Gritton Postgraduate Scholarship – valued at the APA rate* and awarded (on
application) to graduates who would normally be expected to have first class honours
degrees. A relocation allowance, a thesis allowance, sick leave and maternity
leave are provided in line with Australian Postgraduate Award entitlements. A
postgraduate scholarship shall be tenable for up to two years for a Masters
degree and up to three years for a PhD degree, subject to satisfactory
progress. In exceptional circumstances, a further extension of six months may
be granted to PhD candidates. Periods of study already undertaken towards the
degree prior to the commencement of the award will be deducted from the maximum
period of tenure.

What does it
cover? 
The
scholarship is valued at the same rate as the Australian Postgraduate Award
($24,653 in 2013).

The scholarships shall be awarded on the basis of academic merit and
appropriateness of proposed programs of research.

Notification: All applicants will be
advised by mid August 2013.

post. Application Procedures: Applicants who have applied for the 2013 Semester
two Australian Postgraduate Awards (APA) / University of Sydney Postgraduate
Awards (UPA) by 11 June 2013:You will need to complete and submit Supplementary
Form A and two Referee’s Reports. A total of six (6) sets of Supplementary Form
A and supporting documentation are required. Applicants who have NOT applied
(or are ineligible to apply) for the 2013 Semester two Australian Postgraduate
Awards (APA) / University of Sydney Postgraduate Awards (UPA):You will need to
complete and submit Application Form B and two Referee’s Reports. A total of
six (6) sets of Application Form B, complete with supporting documentation, are
required. Six (6) identical sets of completed Supplementary Form A OR
Application Form B, together with supporting documentation/attachments, must be
submit
