University of Kent Gurkha Scholarship for Study

The University of Kent has launched a new scholarship for serving and former members of Kent’s Gurkha brigades and their dependents. The University of Kent Gurkha Scholarship for Study will be awarded
annually for a period of five years.

As Kent’s regional University, we recognise our responsibility both to the large Nepalese community that has settled in Kent and to the Gurkha regiments based in the county. The University is committed to achieving proper recognition for these soldiers and their families.

About
This scholarship is open to serving and former members of Gurkha brigades located in Kent and their dependents who wish to study at undergraduate or postgraduate level at the University of Kent.
This scholarship will cover tuition fees for one year in the first instance, renewable for the duration of the programme of study, subject to satisfactory academic progress.

Eligibility
Undergraduate

Criteria
• This scholarship is open to serving and former members of Gurkha brigades located in Kent and their dependents, with priority given to serving and former Gurkhas wounded in conflict and the dependents of Gurkhas wounded or killed in conflict
• Full-time home/EU or overseas applicants are eligible to apply for this scholarship
• Applicants must hold an offer for full-time undergraduate study at Kent and have accepted Kent as their first choice institution
• Applicants must demonstrate financial need
• International applicants must present appropriate immigration documentation showing that they are able to legally attend the University of Kent for the course on which they are registering

The successful applicant will be willing to act as an ‘ambassador’ for the University, their subject and faculty and attend University events when requested if not in conflict with either course attendance or classes being in session.

How to apply
Applicants will be considered on the basis of their UCAS forms and a covering letter stating their motivation for studying their chosen subject at Kent.

Postgraduate

Criteria
• This scholarship is open to serving and former members of Gurkha brigades located in Kent and their dependents, with priority given to serving and former Gurkhas wounded in conflict and the dependents of Gurkhas wounded or killed in conflict
• Full-time home/EU or overseas applicants are eligible to apply for this scholarship
• Applicants must hold an offer for full-time postgraduate study at Kent and have accepted their offer
• Applicants must demonstrate financial need
• International applicants must present appropriate immigration documentation showing that they are able to legally attend the University of Kent for the course on which they are registering

The successful applicant will be willing to act as an ‘ambassador’ for the University, their subject and faculty and attend University events when requested if not in conflict with either course attendance or classes being in session.
