Job Description:
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Proactively
and creatively promotin
g the vision of WaterAid through raising WAU and its
partner’s visibility i.e. improve the organization’s profile and promote
changes of key social & economic issues identified by WAU’s work in the
sector.
• Design
and develop strategies for discrete areas of communications, e.g. dissemination
plan for a publication or a media plan around an event, identify key messages,
objectives, target audiences etc.
• Promote
understanding and regular update of the WASH sector and other development
issues within WAU and its partners. Develop regular newsletters for all WAU and
sector related activities, manage all updates both locally and internationally.
This will also involve the management of the WAU page on WaterAid’s, “The
Source” website.
• Serve
as the focal point of contact of WAU within the media fraternity by developing
and maintaining positive and proactive relationships in order to support the
work of Water Aid and its partners.
• Facilitate
and monitor the design and production of WAU publications and materials such as
researches, best practices, brochures, newsletters, annual reports etc and
ensure that they adhere to WA’s corporate identity guidelines
• Create
targeted social networking pages to promote a single message/event to WASH
supporters and non-supporters. Establish a brand presence on social networks
through Blogs, Face Book, Yammer, Twitter and other means as appropriate and
continually widen supporter base.
• Represent
WAU in key WASH advocacy and government meetings especially at local levels
where partners work. You will gather basic information and short interviews,
including acting as the interviewer on film to accompany all images / footage.
• Work
closely with partners and related programme staff in the production and
dissemination of at least three (3) learning documents each year, detailing
best practice/policy lessons etc arising from WAU’s work.
• Make
certain that annual planning takes place; planners and detailed calendars
developed and communication monitored and synchronized
• Manage
the webpage of Uganda country program; as Country Content Officer ensure
regular posting of information; Ensure webpage is up to date, accurate,
compelling according to the International webpage of WaterAid.
• Maintain
WAU’s workspace on “The Source” continuously build the site, work with
documents and images, uploading media coverage, confident with permissions and
train all other WAU staff to navigate through the site.
• Strategic
support to WAU partners in developing their communications capacities:
• Conducting
participative planning activities in accordance with the partnership contract
plan. Undertake field visits to document/photo-document success stories of
partners. Meeting regularly with individual partners in accordance with the
above mentioned plan for partnership activity progress.
• Analysing
partner communications and development needs for capacity building or support
in providing skills development.
• Offering
technical support, coaching, advice and development activities to partners in
areas of documentation and publications.
• Facilitating
and supporting the involvement of partners in public communication at
international meetings / sector meetings or developmental activities related to
WASH.
• Identify
areas of learning and documentations from partners’ work.
• Perform
any other responsibilities, tasks or activities as reasonably required as the
above is given as a broad range of duties and is not intended to be a complete
description of all tasks. It is important to note that the responsibilities may
change to meet the evolving needs of the way WaterAid works.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
• The
applicant must possess a bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication or Journalism.
• At
least five years’ experience in Communications or Media Advocacy related work areas.
• Extensive
knowledge of campaigns and documentation in areas of development works.
• Detailed
knowledge and understanding of national public expenditure, National
Development Plan/PEAP, Sector-wide approaches, development financing and
functioning of government structures like decentralisation.
• Excellent
writing and editing skills coupled with good interpersonal relations.
• Proven
experience in community mobilisation and public speaking.
• Significant
experience working with partners.
• Possess
excellent interpersonal and leadership skills with commitment to WaterAid’s
values and working styles.
• Good
networking, facilitation and co-ordination skills
• Skills
in presentation, public speaking , documentation and information management
• Exhibit
commitment to addressing issues of Equity & Inclusion and pro poor
approaches.
• Excellent
Microsoft computer knowledge of packages like Desktop Publishing, Adobe, MS
Word and Access
