Garden Party, an organic CSA farm on the outskirts of
Kitchener-Waterloo, is seeking an individual to steward part of our
farm for the 2015 season, an

d perhaps beyond.

We have operated a 30 – 50 share CSA since the late 1980 has and have
been third party certified organic since 2006. In 2015, we plan on
taking a ‘break’ from vegetable farming to develop a sustainable
flowers farm on a section of our land and pursue some other projects.
However, we have built a strong reputation and market for our organic
vegetables and we do not want to leave our members and customers
stuck.

Therefore, we are looking for someone to rent our vegetable plots,
equipment and facilities, while we put time to other on-farm ventures.
This is a great opportunity if you are an emerging ecological farmer
who has spent time in internships and self-directed research, and is
trying to figure out next steps. You can try your hand at running a
CSA and market booths without acquiring your own land and equipment.

This ‘low risk’ opportunity is ideal for someone who lives close to
Kitchener-Waterloo (there is no accommodation for you on the site) and
has an additional source of income (or lives with someone who has
another source of income). Here is a snapshot of the numbers: in 2014,
we spent about 500 hrs in total on vegetable production & marketing,
and our gross sales totalled $15,000. We are asking for $3,000 to
lease our organic vegetable plots (just over 1 acre), facilities and
equipment for the 2015 season (April – October), and to maintain them
in accordance with the Canadian Organic Standard.

Vegetable plots include an asparagus bed, rhubarb & raspberries, and
access to extensive herb and flower gardens. Facilities include a
large indoor packing shed, washroom and public health inspected
kitchen, a 30 sq ft walk in cooler, 1,000 sq ft of unheated hoop house
space, an outdoor washing station, a shade house, tool storage and a
roadside stand. Equipment includes a new 27 hp Simplicity tractor with
tiller and loader, rear tine BCS tiller, Stihl front tine tiller,
irrigation equipment, small tools and hand seeders. The lease includes
equipment maintenance/repair, and all utilities (electricity, phone,
internet, natural gas, water). The lease also includes use of our
brand (http://www.gardenparty.ca ) and access to our existing
markets.
