the urban forest. Our community-based programs seek to engage residents as
active urban forest stewards through accessible, on-the-ground programs. We are
currently seeking a Development and Marketing Assistant for a summer student
employment position. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional
organizational and communication skills, demonstrate initiative and creativity
and have a passion for environmental issues. They will be an independent,
motivated team player. The position will offer an excellent opportunity to gain
skills and experience working with a non-profit organization that engages the
public in creative ways.
Responsibilities:
Reporting
to the Program Manager and working closely with other staff and volunteers, the
Development and Marketing Assistant is responsible for:

- creating
an inventory of LEAF’s current fundraising and marketing activities - identifying
opportunities for improvement/expansion on these activities - working
with LEAF staff and board to identify goals and activities of annual
fundraising/marketing plan - summarizing
plan and targets in written plan - identify
next steps and work with Program Manager to create implementation plan
Qualifications
The
successful applicant will demonstrate, through a combination of experience,
education and/or training the following key skills and assets:

- Currently
enrolled in university or college – programs in fundraising, marketing,
communications, urban forestry, environmental studies or related field
preferred - Experience
with fundraising and marketing for a not-for-profit organization
considered an asset - Graphic
design, social media, website design and maintenance (Drupal) skills and
experience considered an asset - Excellent
verbal and written communication skills - Extremely
strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and highly effective
time-management, as well as the ability to multi-task and work to
deadlines - Ability
to work in an independent, self-directed manner, while coordinating with
and complimenting a broader staff and volunteer team - Ability
to be proactive, creative, innovative and solutions-oriented - Experience
working with or volunteering for a not-for-profit organization an asset

is between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment; - (b)
was registered as a full-time student during the preceding academic year; - (c)
intends to return to school on a full-time basis during the next academic
year; - (d)
is a student in a secondary, post-secondary, CEGEP (Quebec only),
vocational or technical program; - (e)
is a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee
protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection
Act* and; - (f)
is legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial /
territorial legislation and regulations
