Background

The Elements Society develops leaders who are changing the way things are done
in their schools, workplaces and communities with positive environmental
impacts. We facilitate, guide and connect people to relevant skills, knowledge
and other leaders in communities to produce sustainable results that make our
world better.

Destination Conservation (DC) is a multi-year, practical, student-driven,
activity-based program that brings environmental education alive in schools. DC
increases sustainability by developing leadership teams in schools that
conserve energy and water, reduce waste and protect the environment while
tracking their impact and measuring the financial benefits. These teams are
comprised of students, teachers, principals, custodians and parents who work
together with community partners to implement school-wide campaigns.

Director or Programs Alberta

You would be responsible for all Elements Society programs in Alberta and
creating/finding new opportunities to collaborate/expand and grow our programs.
Currently, active in AB is the Destination Conservation Program in Calgary and
Fort McMurray. The current contract is part time with ability to increase hours
with more projects and funding in AB.

What this work involves:
• Work collaboratively with the Director of Business Development and Director
of Programs British Columbia (BC);
• Establish a positive, healthy and safe work environment in accordance with
all appropriate legislation and regulations;
• Ensure strong and effective relations with existing partners and sponsors;
• Ensure effective volunteer management;
• Represent the organization in the community and with potential partners;
• Administer the funds of the organization according to the approved budget;
• Work with the Director of Programs BC to plan, develop, implement and
evaluate the organization’s programs and services;
• Coordinate Destination Conservation (DC) workshop administration for multiple
school districts (email communication, registration, etc.);
• Deliver the DC program throughout Alberta
• Research and write educational material at the elementary and secondary school
level;
• Collect information, create and write reports;
• Set program goals, objective and evaluation in collaboration with Director of
Programs BC;
• Maintain and updated the file sharing system;
• Program Marketing;
• Searching for funding and writing grant Applications

What it’ll take to be on the team:
• Experience with student leadership and/or environmental education;
• Demonstrated ability to coordinate workshops, events, and meetings;
• Communications skills, including writing, community-based social marketing
and social media;
• Experience fundraising and grant writing;
• A passion to meaningfully engage others in ways that inspire change in
perspective and behaviour;
• A positive, outgoing attitude with strong interpersonal skills;
• Proactively handle problems as they arise and work under minimal supervision;
• Collaborate and contribute effectively to a team-based work environment;
• Willingness to travel in Alberta;
• Irregular working hours, on occasion;
• Degree or diploma in resource management, ecology, biology, education,
communications and/or equivalent; and
• Criminal record check.

Other duties reasonably within the capability of the employee may also be
required from time to time.The employee’s duties may be altered following
consultation with the employee.

Location: Home office in Calgary or Edmonton, AB; some travel and working
remotely, at times.

Contract: 20 hours/month; possibility to increase hours with more funding and
programs in AB
