About
the position

We
are seeking an Academic Support Teacher to provide supervision and guidance to
the Master of Teaching Students from the University of Western Sydney who are
assisting in the funded “Creating Education Footprints” program.
The
Teacher will assist students with their professional development and provide
face to face tutoring to children in years 9 and 10.  The role aims to
assist socially disadvantaged children to remain engaged in school and teach
them the skills to assist with completing their educational requirements.
This
position will be a part time (4 hrs a week) for a fixed term to December 2015.
Essential
experience or skills
  • Tertiary
    qualifications in Education, and aware of the Year 9 and 10
    syllabus. 
  • Demonstrated
    understanding of the needs of children having difficulties at school and
    people from a socially disadvantaged demographic.
  • Demonstrated
    experience in teaching children in a variety of ways to encourage maximum
    opportunity to learn as well as, relevant creative learning styles.
  • Demonstrated
    supervision skills of students that are training to be teachers.
  • Well
    developed communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong
    business acumen including the understanding of children with learning
    difficulties and experiencing financial hardship.
Desirable
criteria
  • Willingness
    to work 4 hours a week, two hours on a Tuesday and 2 hours on a Thursday
    after 3pm.
  • Experience
    in supporting children in need.
  • Demonstrated
    understanding of CALD and/or ATSI communities and socially disadvantaged
    communities.

successful candidate must undergo a National Police Clearance prior to
appointment and must provide a valid working with children check prior to
