A man aged 25 years has been arrested by the police in Ogun State for allegedly killing a man named Olakiitan Balogun whom he had suspected to be his wife’s lover.
According to the statement of the police spokesperson in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi, on Wednesday 20th March, 2019, the 25 years old man named Ajibade Olumuyiwa was arrested following a distress call received by the Divisional Police Officer of Ajuwon Division. He said residents of Doland Estate in the area informed the DPO that a man had murdered his wife’s suspected lover right inside his house.
The police added that, “On the receipt of the distress call, the Divisional Police Officer, Afolabi Kazeem, led his detectives to the scene where the suspect was promptly arrested, adding that on interrogation, he explained that he came to his house at about 12: 30 midnight on the fateful day and met the deceased right inside the house with his wife.”
According to Abimbola Oyeyemi, the suspect narrated that out of anger; he started beating the intruder and hit his head against the wall, leading to his death.
The suspect’s wife, Titilayo Olayiwola, told the police that the deceased was not her lover but a cobbler living close to their house. She also narrated that she had been abandoned by the suspect for more than eight months by the suspect but had instructed their gateman to monitor her movement and report to him whenever he sees any man with her.
The suspect’s wife continued that on the fateful day of the incident, the deceased’s girlfriend paid him a visit and because he was not living alone decided to as the suspect’s wife to allow him pass the night with his girl friend in one of the rooms in her house; a request which the suspect’s wife informed the police that she granted due to the closeness of the deceased to the family.
The suspect’s wife alleged that as soon as the gateman saw the man, he informed the suspect (Ajibade Olumuyiwa) who came to the house hurriedly and descended on the deceased until he killed him with fisted blows, body slamming and pushing against the walls all over the house without listening to any explanation from her and the girlfriend of the victim.
According to the police spokesperson the corpse of the deceased had been deposited at the General Hospital mortuary for post mortem examination, while the case had been transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for investigation and prosecution on the order of the Commissioner of Police in the state, Ahmed Iliyasu.
