SERVICOM in health care delivery

SERVICOM is an acronym to ensure delivery of quality healthcare services that is based upon the needs of patients.

SERVICOM It is an acronym for SERVICE COMPACT WITH ALL NIGERIANS. It is a social contract between the Federal Government of Nigeria and its people.

Sometimes in June 2003, former president Olusegun Obasanjo declared that Nigerians have long been feeling short-changed by the quality of public service being rendered to its citizens. It was of the view that the public service has become a haven for in efficiency and corruption but that Nigerians deserve to be served better.

As a follow up to this declaration a report was commissioned in December 2003 to:

  • Review Service Delivery in Nigeria.
  • Examine Institutional Environment for Service Delivery.
  • Reflect on people lives and expression and Draw a road map for a Service Delivery programme.

SERVICOM principles

SERVICOM is predicated on the following principles.

  1. Affirmation of commitment to the services to the Nigeria Nation.
  2. Conviction that Nigeria canonry realize its full potential if citizen receive prompt and efficient service from the state.
  3. Consideration for the needs and right of all Nigeria to enjoy social and economic advancement.
  4. Dedication to deliver service to which citizen are entitled timely, fairly, honestly, effectively and transparently.

 SERVICOM establishment

SERVICOM unit is present in all ministries, departments and agencies of government (MDAS) throughout the federation.

 Objectives of SERVICOM

Objectives of servicom; is to deliver health service, teaching and research. The hospital achieves these objectives through the provision of hospital and clinical teaching facilities for the training of health personnel such as newly qualified doctors, professionals such as nurses, pharmacists, laboratory technologists, physiotherapists, Radiographers etc. The hospital also provides in-patient and out-patient health care services to its numerous clients through her highly trained staff, conducts and promotes research on all matters pertaining to health and provides adequate clinical materials and equipment for service, teaching and research.

The charter serves to enlighten our numerous clients about the nature of services rendered by the hospital, the quality of such services, our obligations to them for the quality service delivery and how they can make their complaints in event of service failure and be sure to get their complaint properly addressed and solved.

Ideas about health and behaviors are shaped by the communication, information, and technology that people interact with every day. Health communication and health information technology (IT) are central to health care, public health, and the way our society views health. These processes make up the context and the ways professionals and the public search for, understand, and use health information, significantly impacting their health decisions and actions.

The objectives in this topic area describe many ways health communication and health IT can have a positive impact on health, health care, and health equity. They include:

  • Supporting shared decision-making between patients and providers.
  • Providing personalized self-management tools and resources.
  • Building social support networks.
  • Delivering accurate, accessible, and actionable health information that is targeted or tailored.
  • Facilitating the meaningful use of health IT and exchange of health information among health care and public health professionals.
  • Enabling quick and informed action to health risks and public health emergencies.
  • Increasing health literacy skills.
  • Providing new opportunities to connect with culturally diverse and hard-to-reach populations.
  • Providing sound principles in the design of programs and interventions that result in healthier behaviours.
