What is Hypertension?

The
word hypertension or high blood pressure is one of the most serious health
problem or illness worldwide, it contributes directly or indirectly to millions
deaths each year around the world. It is also the most common cardiac vascular
disease (that is disease affecting the heart and blood vessel).

The
American Heart Association Called Hypertension “A silent killer”.

Hypertension
is a condition in which a person’s blood pressure is higher than its normal
blood pressure when all variables including age and health condition are taken
into consideration.
When
an artery is cut across, the blood spurts out from the end nearest the heart
with considerable force and is obviously under high pressure within the artery.
It will further be observed that, in addition to the continuous stream, there
will be regular sports of increased pressure corresponding with each heart
beat, the continuous pressure is partly dependent on the elasticity of the arteries
and is called the diastolic pressure. The increase pressure occurring with each
beat of the heart is the systolic blood pressure.
Hypertension
is defined as the consistency rising is systolic blood pressure greater than
140 mmHg and diastolic pressure greater than 90mmHg over a sustained period.
Although
hypertension often causes no symptoms, it is dangerous. Left untreated, the
disease leads to severe and possibly life threatening, damage to the heart,
kidney and arteries.
Blood
pressure is measured by an instrument called the sphygmomanometer. This
consists of a rubber bag which is placed around the arm. This may be
appreciated either by the finger or by listening over the brachial artery at
the bend of the elbow with the stethoscope.
Blood
pressure is measured on two or more occasions before you are sure the person
have high blood pressure and it must be taken early in the morning when the
persons has not been stressed up.
