Social
Sciences and Humanities Research Studentships

Applications are
being invited for 19 full-time studentships, consisting of a fee waiver and
annual stipend of £16,000, for three years commencing in January 2016 to
candidates with a Home fee status in the following areas:

SSH1:Migrant Worlds, Migrant Experience and Material Culture (Chinese)

SSH2:Migrant Worlds, Migrant Experience and Material Culture (French)

SSH3:One Planet Living: Measuring the Impacts of the One Planet Living Framework

SSH4:Penguin’s China: Reading China in Paperback

In addition to PhD
studies, candidates will be expected to undertake up to six hours a week
assisting with teaching or other academic duties.

Applicants should
normally have a minimum classification of 2.1 in their Bachelor Degree or
equivalent and preferably a Masters degree. Applicants whose secondary level
education has not been conducted in the medium of English should also
demonstrate evidence of appropriate English language proficiency normally
defined as IELTS: 6.5 (overall score with not less than 6.0 in any of the
individual elements).

The Faculty of
Social Sciences and Humanities at the University of Westminster has a vibrant
research culture. Based in the heart of London, the Faculty currently has
around 100 doctoral students and much of the research produced by its staff was
judged as world leading in REF2014. The faculty consists of five departments
and one school:

Each part of the
Faculty has a rich and lively research culture consisting of research seminars,
conferences, symposia and invited speaker events. In addition to this, we are
proud of the cross-disciplinary work carried out between departments, for
example through the Faculty research seminar series and through collaborations
between members of staff. This cross-disciplinarity is also a feature of the
experience of our research students, evident in the fruitful collaborations and
conversations begun during our annual faculty PhD away weekend. The Faculty is
committed to supporting doctoral research which is innovative, critical and
discipline-changing.
