Watershed Watch Salmon Society’s mission is to catalyze efforts to protect and restore BC’s precious wild salmon. Through scientific expertise, strategic alliances, outreach programs, and innovative projects, Watershed Watch is at the forefront in sounding the alarm on threats to salmon, and in prompting action to help them.
Active in British Columbia for over ten years, Watershed Watch focuses on three key program areas: Wild Salmon Policy, Aquaculture and Water/Hydropower. Past projects include research into the impacts of sea lice from salmon farms, reports on salmon harvest reform, and work on the provincial Water Act Modernization process. Watershed Watch works with an extensive network of conservation organizations, First Nations, and all levels of government.
Watershed Watch is currently seeking a full-time Administrative Coordinator to support our team of staff and contractors. The Administrative Coordinator reports to the Executive Director and is based in Coquitlam, BC. The successful candidate will have an administrative background, preferably with financial management experience and demonstrate excellent time management, communications and analytical skills.
Key areas of responsibility:
Administrative services:
• Financial management: Grant tracking, bookkeeping, and budgeting
• Grant reporting: Preparation of grant proposals, budgets, final reports and invoices
• Prepare contracts for consultants and staff
• Prepare Agency Agreements for projects with other non-profit organizations
• Prepare materials for Board of Directors Meetings
• Provide direct administrative support to the Executive Director
• Provide project management support to Watershed Watch biologists
• Administer Watershed Watch’s benefits plan
• Answer phones and respond to email inquiries
• Filing and general office organization
• Prepare meeting handouts and packages
• Calendar tracking (i.e. what staff are where and when)
• Schedule and organize meetings
• Make travel arrangements
Outreach and Fundraising:
• Assist in implementation of Watershed Watch’s fundraising plan
• Maintain and update media and contacts database
• Maintain library database
• Organize mail-outs and distribution of outreach materials
• Issue tax receipts for donations
• Update Watershed Watch Website and manage our social media presence as required
Qualifications:
• Administrative experience including bookkeeping and financial management
• Knowledge of non profit financial reporting requirements and management
• Excellent organizational skills, and ability to multitask, and pay attention to details
• Excellent communication skills—strong focus on concise and precise writing
• Be self motivated—ability to work efficiently alone is an asset
• Ability to prioritize work effectively to meet external deadlines
• Excellent computer skills including MS Office and computer troubleshooting (knowledge of Simply Accounting and Word Press would be an asset)
• Interest in environmental protection and general knowledge of conservation issues
Salary Range:
Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Our benefits include four weeks vacation in the first year, an additional week off at Christmas, a good benefits plan and opportunities for professional development.
