Overall Position Objective
The educational assistant (EA) is responsible for assisting teachers, with a particular focus on classroom management. This includes providing close supervision of individual children or groups of children, as well as assisting in teaching and supporting conditions for children to learn. The position will be reviewed in February.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
• Assist teachers with classroom management to support maximum learning conditions for all children
• Work with individual students or small groups who need particular attention
• Assist class teacher and subject teachers to ensure smooth transitions between lessons
• Participate in therapeutic/remedial teacher meetings
• Keep a daily logbook for record keeping and activity reports
Experience, Skills & Knowledge
• A calm and assertive nature, able to create conditions that facilitate learning
• Willingness and ability to follow the lead of teachers with differing teaching styles
• Flexible and conscientious
• Experience with children with special needs, such as ADHD
• Comfortable in a supporting role
• Familiar with a progressive discipline approach, familiar with social modeling
• Experience in a Waldorf school and an understanding of Waldorf pedagogy preferable
