Eligibility:
-Be citizens of the United States or its territories or possessions, or persons lawfully admitted to the United States for permanent residence OR citizens of low- or middle-income countries as defined by the World Bank .
-Have demonstrated interest in, and statement of commitment to, a career in global health research.
-Have the support of a VECD institution, including committed mentors in both the US and the LMIC site.
-Applicants that are not currently affiliated with a VECD institution must communicate with leaders and mentors in one of the VECD institutions to obtain their endorsement of the application.
-Preference is given to US-based postdoctoral applicants who have received support from their institution’s NIH T32 research training grants, or from VECD research-oriented global health residency and fellowship training programs.
-Applicants from Meharry Medical College, Ponce School of Medicine and Health Sciences, and U. Puerto Rico are encouraged. Potential applicants from these institutions should communicate with a VECD institution to identify mentors.
-Postdoctoral trainees within three years of their last major training (i.e., degree program, residency, fellowship) Advanced doctoral students currently enrolled in health-related doctoral programs.
-Persons in health-related disciplines (human or animal) such as medicine, nursing, public health, dentistry, osteopathic medicine, veterinary medicine, nutrition science, pharmacy, optometry, and others are invited to apply. Ph.D. students should have completed their Master’s-level coursework, and professional doctoral degree candidates should have completed their basic science courses and one year of clinical training.

Scholarship Description: The Fogarty Global Health Fellowship Program replaces the Fogarty International Clinical Research Scholars & Fellows Program, representing new opportunities in global health research training. The Global Health Fellowship Program is one-year clinical research training program for pre- and postdoctoral candidates, sponsored by the Fogarty International Center (FIC) and several collaborating institutes and centers at the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
Value of scholarships: 11 months of stipend support. U.S. postdoctoral trainees are supported according to the NRSA federal stipend scale. Non-U.S. citizens are supported at a rate that is fair and equitable in their home institutions for their professional level.
