COMPANY INFORMATION
The Vancouver Aquarium Marine Science Centre is a recognized leader in
connecting people to our natural world, and a self-supporting, non-profit
association dedicated to the conservation of aquatic life.
The Vancouver Aquarium has come a long way since it opened in 1956. A “hit”
from opening day (over 10,000 people lined up on June 10th), the Aquarium
remains Vancouver’s single largest visitor attraction. This fact enables it to
operate without an annual subsidy from any level of Government – unique for a
cultural institution in Canada. With a diverse and passionate member community
of over 77,000 strong, over 1,000 volunteers, 450 employees and a $32 million
operating budget, the Vancouver Aquarium is the largest aquarium in Canada.
The Vancouver Aquarium is an institution that is known by scientists and
conservationists around the world as a valuable contributor to both scientific
research and the community through its commitment to conservation, research and
educational programs. Leading aquarium professionals generally place the
Vancouver Aquarium among the top five in the world. Innovative programming,
superlative animal care, and a commitment to aquatic research have seen the
Aquarium held in high esteem year after year. Aquarium research projects extend
world-wide and the Aquarium is internationally recognized for its successful
Marine Mammal Rescue Program.
