The USQ Division of Research and Innovation incorporates the Office of
Research, Office of Research Development, Research Institutes, Research
Centres, Office of Research Graduate Studies and various innovation,
commercialisation and partnership development functions which drive the
University’s research performance and innovation in areas of strength and
priority and build relationships with industry and business. The Office of
Research Development focuses on adding value to researchers and their research

development skills to develop partnerships with industry, government,
philanthropic and private investors.
What you’ll do
You will be responsible for leading commercialisation activities within the
University, as well as developing new external relationships to meet the
objectives of the USQ Research Strategy. Reporting directly to the Director
(Office of Research Development), you will work collaboratively with
Researchers, Research Institute and Centre Directors and other senior staff in
order to focus on building an extensive network of contacts to develop strong
relationships and partnerships with community and business. In
particular, you will:
- manage
the identification and securing of collaborative funding sources in
support of early stage and proof of concept projects; - contribute
to the strategic outcomes of the University in a consistent, cooperative
and collaborative way; - coordinate
and manage the development of major submissions to government and other
external agencies and the development of fellowship applications to
government and other external agencies; - manage
the identification and evaluation of business development opportunities
and the associated transfer of university generated intellectual property;
- proactively
identify and evaluate opportunities through early stage market evaluation
and move to protect commercial intellectual property; and - undertake
and manage commercial contract negotiation between parties in compliance
with the USQ Contract Management Framework.
Key to your success in this role will be your ability to quickly acquire knowledge
and understanding of diverse areas of research, as well as being able to
negotiate commercial contracts. Ideally, you will have experience in and
knowledge of technology/knowledge transfer processes, as well as intellectual
property strategies. Additionally, you will have:
- postgraduate
qualifications relevant to USQ’s Research Priorities, with experience in a
higher education, research, commercialisation, government or similar
environment, or extensive management experience and proven expertise in
contractual negotiations in a commercial environment, or an equivalent
combination of relevant experience and/or education/training; - demonstrated
business acumen and financial literacy within a highly competitive
commercial environment; - demonstrated
experience in high-level industry engagement and understanding of industry
needs and sectors to support commercial outcomes of significance; - demonstrated
ability to develop and maintain effective, high-trust business networks
and consult, negotiate and provide authoritative information and advice on
a range of topics at a strategic level; and - demonstrated
high level ability to provide strategic advice and establish and maintain
effective relationships with a diverse range of clients and stakeholders.

remuneration range $131,007 to $145,217 pa (includes salary range of $110,698
to $122,705 pa, employer superannuation contributions of 17% of salary and
annual leave loading)
