Professor/Associate
Professor in Toxicology/Environmental Health/Occupational Health
Requirements
Duties:
The successful candidate will be expected to: (i) teach undergraduate and
graduate courses in environmental health, occupational health, food safety,
epidemiology, toxicology; Preference will be given to candidates with teaching
experience in human health risk assessment, environmental toxicology,
environmental epidemiology, environmental microbiology and chemical
engineering; (ii) demonstrate leadership in teaching, research and community
service, including the long-range planning and management of individuals and
multidisciplinary teams. (iii) take an active part in the supervision and
assessment of Undergraduate and Graduate students’ research projects; (iv)
develop and implement mentorship activities for junior staff ; (v) raise
research funds from funding agencies within and outside the University; (vi)
facilitate partnerships internally and externally; (vii) serve on committees
within the University and external professional organizations; (viii) carry out
any other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Head of
Department.
Requirements:
The requirements for appointment at each rank are as follows:
Professor
Candidates should have (i) at least a Masters’ Degree in any of the following
fields: Toxicology, Environmental health, occupational health,
chemistry/chemical engineering, Biology, environmental epidemiology (ii) at
least 8 years of teaching experience at a University or comparable institution;
(iii) have a good and sustained record of research and publications with at
least 24 publications with research interest in metal/pesticide toxicity,
reproductive and developmental effects of toxicants, immunotoxicology, exposure
assessment, public health policy, waste management, food safety; 12 of which
should be refereed journal articles; (iv) be lead and/ or single authored in at
least 10 refereed journal articles or book chapters; (v) demonstrate evidence
of service to the University, the Profession and the Community; (vi)
demonstrate evidence of effective academic leadership; (vii) a relevant PhD,
research mentorship to junior scholars and evidence of attracting research
grants will be an added advantages.
Associate
Professor
Candidates should have (i) at least a Masters’ Degree in any of the following
fields: Toxicology, Environmental health, occupational health,
chemistry/chemical engineering, Biology, environmental epidemiology (ii) at
least 5 years of teaching experience at a University or comparable institution;
(iii) have a good and sustained record of research and publications with at
least 12 publications with research interest in metal/pesticide toxicity,
reproductive and developmental effects of toxicants, immunotoxicology, exposure
assessment, public health policy, waste management, food safety; 8 of which
should be refereed journal articles; (iv) be lead and/ or single author in at
least 6 refereed journal articles or book chapters; (iv) demonstrate evidence
of service to the University, the Profession and the Community; (v) demonstrate
evidence of effective academic leadership; (vi) a relevant PhD, research
mentorship to junior scholars and evidence of attracting research grants will
be an added advantages.
