Research Associate in Epidemiology

The appointment will be full time on UCL Grade 7. The salary range will be £29,249 – £34,895 per annum, exclusive of London Allowance depending on skills and experience. London Allowance is payable when post-holder works in London.

We wish to recruit an enthusiastic epidemiologist to join our research team in Malawi, which is working as part of a large consortium funded by a Wellcome Trust Strategic Award, with partners in Bangladesh, India, Nepal and the UK.

The post holder will be responsible for co-ordinating a large demographic and health surveillance system, analysing data collected through this system, and supporting the local team in their data and field activities. The post-holder will work with Professor Anthony Costello, principal investigator on the awarded grant, as well as other co-applicants and senior members of the research team.

The post is initially funded for 18 months.

The post-holder must have a PhD in epidemiology or a relevant discipline. Research experience in health, in rural Africa, experience of working with, or managing teams of data collectors, data entry and data management staff and previous experience of working in a research role within an academic environment are all essential. The post-holder must be willing to live and work in rural Malawi for at least 18 months (with up to 2 trips back to the UK during this time and opportunities to stay on in Malawi after initial 18 months, pending on new grant funding).
