Toronto Wildlife Centre (TWC) is seeking an experienced Fundraising Assistant. This demanding position requires someone with strong organizational skills and an enthusiasm for working with people who share the same passion for wildlife to provide support to our fundraising team.

Toronto Wildlife Centre is the only wildlife centre in the Greater Toronto Area and the busiest in Canada. Dedicated to the rehabilitation of sick, injured and orphaned wildlife, and to educating the public on wildlife-
related issues; TWC is the only wildlife centre in Canada with highly-trained wildlife veterinarians on staff, a dedicated Wildlife Rescue Program, and the only wildlife centre in Ontario with an Oil Spill Response Program. More than 30,000 phone calls from the public are handled each year through TWC’s Wildlife Hotline; this service is the busiest of its kind in North America and is considered to be a model internationally. Approximately 5,000 wild animals are admitted each year representing over 270 different species of wildlife. TWC works closely with other organizations to ensure the well-being of wildlife and our shared environments. As a registered charity, TWC relies on donations from members of the public, foundations, and like-minded organizations. Volunteers work in all areas of the centre from wildlife care to IT support.

The Fundraising Assistant is responsible for maintaining donor relations and providing support to the Executive Director and the fundraising and administration team. Although, fundraising experience and / or educational background in fundraising is ideal Highly organised work habits, superior communication skills, enthusiasm and creativity, and outstanding attention to detail are essential to this position.

The starting pay for this position is $31,000 to $33,000 commensurate on experience. This is a full-time, permanent position. Some weekends and evenings required.

Position Summary:
The Fundraising Assistant will primarily be responsible for activities relating to individual donors; they will play a critical role in the centre’s fundraising activities and work closely with the fundraising and administration team.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Maintains donor relations.
– Responsible for general enquiries and donor requests via email and phone
– Thanking and recognizing individual donors
– Planning and organising donor recognition, cultivation or relationship building activities and events for individual donors
– Assists in all aspects of regular mailings including newsletters and direct mail fundraising campaigns

• Supports fundraising team.
– Assists with fundraising-related research
– Coordinates volunteers to assist with fundraising tasks
– Attends occasional events or meetings off-site and outside normal hours of operation
– Participates in further development of the fundraising assistant position
– Updates and maintains fundraising files and records
– Assists with other fundraising administration tasks as necessary

Knowledge and Experience:
• Fundraising experience and / or educational background in fundraising ideal
• Administration experience and / or educational background in administration ideal

Skills and Abilities:
• Genuine concern for and understanding of environmental and wildlife issues
• Exceptional organisational skills; setting priorities, meeting deadlines, and providing support
• Ability to multi-task in a busy environment, to work well under pressure, and to prioritise tasks appropriately; proven ability to meet time-sensitive demands
• Superior written and verbal communication skills in English (copy-writing and creative non-fiction writing skills a bonus)
• Excellent interpersonal skills; personable phone manner
• High level of comfort with Microsoft Office (Access, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
• Desire to work cooperatively and creatively with an energetic, enthusiastic group of people
• Ability to work independently and evaluate own performance
