Child Health Coordinator
Maternal and Child Survival Program (MCSP) is a global, USAID Cooperative
Agreement operating in 25 high priority countries to introduce and support
high-impact health interventions with the ultimate goal of ending preventable
child and maternal deaths within a generation. The Prog
ram is focused on
ensuring that all women, newborns and children most in need have equitable
access to quality health care services to save lives. USAID’s MCSP supports
programming in maternal, newborn and child health, immunization, family
planning and reproductive health, nutrition, health systems strengthening,
water/sanitation/hygiene, malaria, prevention of mother-to-child transmission
of HIV, and pediatric HIV care and treatment. USAID’s MCSP engages governments,
policymakers, private sector leaders, health care providers, civil society,
faith-based organizations and communities in adopting and accelerating proven
approaches to address the major causes of maternal, newborn and child mortality
such as postpartum hemorrhage, birth asphyxia and diarrhea, respectively, and
improve the quality of health services, from household to hospital.
Maternal and Child Survival Program in Rwanda is hiring a Child Health
Coordinator who will provide technical and program support in the area of child
health and act as an integral part of MCSP Rwanda’s team. MCSP/Rwanda aims to
reduce child and maternal mortality through increased coverage and utilization
of high-impact low cost reproductive, maternal, newborn, and child health
(RMNCH) interventions and innovative new approaches and strengthen the capacity
of the Ministry of Health (MOH) to manage and scale up high-impact RMNCH
interventions. The Child Health Coordinator will participate in designing,
implementing and monitoring and evaluation of appropriate and sustainable
approaches related to child health so as to contribute to achievement of
project targets.

- Planning
and integration of CH activities
- Work
closely with the Child Health Advisor on implementing scale-up strategies
for high impact child health interventions at both facility and community
levels (including iCCM, IMCI and ETAT). - Plan
implementation of activities, in close collaboration with district
coordinators as well as the Field Program Coordinator, respective Team
Leaders and other Program Coordinators. - Specifically
monitor the implementation of MCSP’s workplan related to child health
activities and ensure that activities are executed according to plan and
are integrated across the RMNCH platform - Work
collaboratively with other team members to ensure coordinated project
planning, and development, and assure resource availability and management
of activities so that the project functions smoothly and efficiently.
- Operation
- Facilitate
the implementation of all activities including technical materials
development, training, supervision, and monitoring. - Provide
follow-up and assure supportive supervision for activities. - Assist
finance staff to prepare financial forms to advance/reimburse funds for
on-going activities. Assist finance staff to review process and reconcile
payment documentation from trainers, program, technical and management
staff as well as from consultants. - Order
job-aids and training materials in coordination with the Child Health
Advisor and MNCH Team Lead and ensure that materials and supplies reach
target sites in a timely manner. - Help
ensure that required project and administrative reports are submitted in a
timely way. - Assist
with organization of meetings, trainings, field visits, and other
activities. - Assist
with other programmatic and administrative duties as required.
- Learning
and documentation
- Contribute/coordinate
with the Project’s M&E team to ensure that the Project meets targets
in accordance with the M&E framework. - Ensure
that activities related to child health are properly documented and that
program data are systematically collected , analyzed, submitted and
properly archived as well as shared across the project to inform MCSP’s
technical reports and to feed into MCSP’s learning activities - Share
experience related to child health activities to inform the design of
MCSP’s workplan.
- A
degree in medicine or nursing and/or a master’s degree in Public Health or
other clinical disciplines. - Additional
training related to child health and project planning and management. - At
least 5 years of professional experience working in child health programs. - Hands-on
knowledge and skills in designing, planning, implementing and monitoring
of facility and community based programs for promoting safe motherhood and
child survival. - Experience
in child health-related capacity building for health facility staff. - Sound
understanding of current policy developments related to child health. - Good
working knowledge of Microsoft office programs including MS Excel, MS Word
and MS PowerPoint. - Strong
skills in teamwork and networking. - Excellent
communication skills (written and oral) in English, French and Kinyarwanda
(preferred). - Solid
skills in documentation and report writing. - Ability
to travel nationally frequently.
