The term Environmental Sanitation has been defined by World Health Organization as the control of all those factors in man’s physical environment which exercise or may exercise a deleterious effect on his physical development, health and survival.
Environmental Sanitation can also be defined as the principle and practice of effecting healthful and hygienic condition in the environment to promote public health and improve the quality of life (Unuraye, 2009).
Environmental Sanitation has remained consistently poor in many cities in Nigeria for a long time. This scenario, which is associated with impoverishment and low standard of living among the public, has been of great concern to successive governments, and efforts about enforcement and uncoordinated, have been made at various times/levels to complement the socio-cultural norms of sanitation practices in the communities (Hornby, 2005) culturally, certain norms guide the maintenance of adequate sanitation in the communities.
This implies that government should come out with certain measures for effective environmental sanitation in our communities and industries. The poor environmental sanitation causes air, water, land pollution and the waste materials of present day household comprises of refuse, humans excreta and garbage. Sanitation is a health programme which is an important aspect for health promotion and health is under treat for communicable diseases (WHO, 2000).
Ejebe (2005) said that source of water supply and types of pollution brought about infection related with water which is dangerous to the health of man. And he also talk about diseases like malaria and onchocerciasis which are infectious diseases caused by parasites that inhabit water and marrow through the skin.
