Note: For NY residents there is a BCNY bus that
departs for NY Monday morning and returns to

NY Friday afternoon. This is a
resident position- Group Leaders are required to stay on camp grounds, Monday
evening to Thursday evening; Relieved from duties Friday afternoons except for
special events: Parent Day and Graduation which take place on Saturday.

The Boys’ Club of New York (BCNY)
is one of New York’s oldest and most well-respected youth development
organizations and we are moving forward with an exciting and ambitious
strategic agenda. Building on over 139 years of helping boys develop into
quality young men aged 6-21, we offer programs that help boys and young men
stay in school and go on to college, discover their individual musical and
artistic talent, develop healthy minds and bodies, learn leadership skills, and
just have fun. Established in 1985, BCNY’s Robert M. Gardiner School provides
first generation college-bound middle school students from low-income
communities with the support services they need during the summer to secure an
appropriate high school placement. The majority of boys who are accepted into
the program have not yet reached their academic potential.

Summary of Position

The Residential Group Leader is
responsible for the direct guidance, supervision, and safety of a group of
14-20 boys with another Residential Group Leader, while ensuring an engaging
and intellectually stimulating camper experience. He will serve as a model for
youth by building rapport with campers through positive interactions in program
activities and plan and implement age-appropriate curriculum of interactive
challenges, activities and games for campers that lead to campers developing
core competencies. He will provide guidance, problem-solving facilitation, and
behavior modification direction as needed. The Residential Group Leader will
live in the cabins with their assigned campers and are responsible for their
safety and well-being at all times.

Education and/or
Experience

Bachelor’s degree (BA/ BS) or
currently pursuing an undergraduate in education, social work or related field;
Junior level or higher preferred; Minimum two years related experience and/or
training in educational, social service, camp or youth educational setting;
Prior experience working with middle school or high school level children
preferred; Demonstrated flexibility, creativity, self-assuredness, and
willingness to learn; Teaching Assistants and Para Professionals are encouraged
to apply.
