responsibilities for raising a child or children. Single parenthood is seen as
a global phenomenon but its prevalence varies from one society to another. Single
parenthood is said to occur in different forms, notably among them are widowed parents, divorced
parents, unintended pregnancy, choice single
parenthood and single parent adoption.

major contributory factors to single parenthood are identified which are violent
crisis/war/civil disturbances/accident, rape and sexual harassment, divorce/separation,
sickness/disease/death, teenage pregnancy. The challenges facing single
parenthood are summarised as emotional
problems, financial problems and social problems in managing the afore-stated
challenges, single parents are advised to manage
finance effectively, set up a support system, maintain a daily routine, be consistent with
discipline, answer
questions honestly, abolish guilt, spend time with children, take time off for
oneself and stay positive.
