snail consumption among people of Okpokunou community?
From
the respondents’ responses to research question three in table 4.3.3 indicates
that although there are people in Okpokunou Community that do not consume
snail, but it cannot be attributed to a knowledge gap. From the researcher’s
investigations, lack of consumption is based on ancestral believe on land snail
consumption. This is in concurrent with Uboh et al, (2010) who
stated that there are several superstitious beliefs on the consumption of land
snail in some parts of Nigeria; for example in Ishan, Afemai and some
Isoko communities, pregnant and
lactating mothers are forbidden from consuming land snail on the ground that
their children will salivate excessively, while others believed that children
of pregnant and lactating mothers who consume land snail finds it very
difficult to walk and even when they started walking, they will remain sluggish
through their life.
