Southlands Heritage Farm is looking for 2 outstanding Outdoor/Farm Educators to
live at the farm for August, and potentialy

through to the end of October. You
will be a part of our incredible team running farm camps in the summer,
extended programs in September and pumpkin patch field trips in October, and
helping with daily farm and animal care in between programs. We have an
incredible friendly and diverse atmosphere, and there is always lots happening.
Below are some characteristics of the candidates we are looking for:
• High level of ecological, food, and farming literacy
• Models a “less is more” philosophy
• Experience working as an educator with groups of kids
• Current First aid training and is confident applying their training
• Employs musical and or theatrical talents in teaching
• Is resourceful and adaptable when confronted with change
• High levels of positive energy with a good sense of humour
• Experience with animals

As a Resident Farmer, you will act as an ambassador of Southlands Farm to
create positive change in the community and local food system. Your involvement
in the farm will contribute to the quality of education and experiences
provided by us Farmers at Southlands to all visitors.

Resident Farmers play a crucial role in making the farm a unique and beautiful
location where members of the community come to learn about nature, sustainability,
and environmentally friendly food production. As a Resident Farmer you will
have the opportunity to learn about organic food, agriculture, and sustainable
ways of living. You will understand what it means to grow one’s own food
sustainably and make a living as an organic farmer.

The mission of Southlands Heritage Farm is to grow, educate, and protect; to
grow quality food following agroecological principles; to provide
sustainability and farm education through empowering people of all ages with
traditional skills; and to protect and preserve the Agriculture Land Reserve
(ALR) within BC by advocating for and supporting other local farmers and food
producers.

As a Resident Farmer you will be a living part of the land. You will face and
overcome many of the difficulties that farmers throughout human history have
experienced. Take these as challenges! Indeed they are an essential part of
your experience here; Your learning experiences and the problems you will solve
independently and as a team are essential fuel for your role as an educator and
ambassador at Southlands Farm! Your personal farm stories are the best way to
connect with visitors.

As a Resident Farmer you will carry out a variety of tasks, which will include
the following:
• Developing and carrying out educational programs and
• Daily farm chores such as watering, feeding, and cleaning animals
• Working in the market garden or on other aspects of food production
• Being involved and contributing at daily Farm Huddles and weekly Farm Church
• Sales, marketing, administration, outreach, and advocacy
• Working with livestock including chickens, ducks, goats, horses, sheep, and
honeybees
