About SOS:
SOS Children’s
Villages Uganda is an indigenous non-government, social development
organisation affiliated to SOS Children’s Villages International, a worldwide
child care organisation, currently running Children’s Villages and other
projects in 135 countries around the world. SOS has been working in Uganda
since 1991, and runs Children’s Villages and other projects at Kakiri, Entebbe
(Abaita Ababiri), Gulu and in Fort Portal – Kabarole district.
Key Duties and
Responsibilities:  
1. Steers
the Youth Development Process of the National Association:
  • Manage
    the implementation of the Youth policy, ensuring that all processes as
    outlined are carried out professionally.
  • Steer
    the formulation of an active and productive programme for youth
    development,
  • Technically
    supports Family Based care managers in handling issues concerning
    properties inherited and owned by youth, ensuring that such properties are
    well-secured.
  • Manage
    the youth resettlement process from the programme ensuring that proper
    support and procedures are provided to youth.
2. Promotes
Educational and Careers Development:
  • Develop
    a package built on a clear understanding of youth skills, abilities.
  • Technically
    support the search and placement for educational and training
    opportunities ensuring that youth participate in choosing their areas of
    study.
  • Steers
    official correspondence and liaison processes with contact persons in SOS
    Kinderdorf International, colleges and universities abroad, maintaining a
    good level of knowledge about the youth living and studying abroad.
3. Support
the Search for Job and Other Occupational Placement:
  • Develops
    packages, awareness talks and trainings based on current needs, and works
    with Youth co-workers to implement and improve job search skills e.g.
    information search, application and curriculum vitae writing skills,
    interview skills through mock interviews, etc.
  • Develop
    business start-up skills trainings in view of writing business plans and
    proposals, approaches for financing etc.
  • Identify
    apprenticeship placements, and short work experience programmes by
    providing needed backup documentation, references or other needed
    communications.
4. Promote
good relations among the youth:
  • Organise
    meetings with various youth categories in conjunction with Family Based
    Care Managers and Youth Care Co-workers, ensuring that the National
    Director meets with all youth (in various categories) and that key issues
    are featured on such agenda.
  • Actively
    facilitate regular and meaningful meetings among the youth and alumina,
    meetings with various key staff at which their voice and needs can be
    heard and dealt with.
  • Maintain
    and update a database for youth, recording their progress.
Qualifications,
Skills and Experience: 
  • The
    applicants should hold Bachelor’s degrees in child development/social
    sciences (Sociology, Development studies, Economics or related field). A
    Master’s degree in youth development education will be an added advantage.
  • At
    minimum of three or more years’ work experience in child /youth related I
    with a recognised child care NGO.
  • Good
    understanding and knowledge of Uganda and International child rights
    regulation & polices.
  • Excellent
    interpersonal and communication skills.
  • The
    ideal candidate should exhibit exceptional leadership, counselling, and
    report writing skills.
  • A
    thorough understanding of program design and development especially in the
    sectors of Education, Health, Life skill or Child Protection.
  • Computer
    literacy skills i.e. proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and
    the use of Internet for research.
