Discover and share your own gifts as you support young learners in
their own joyful growth at Soaring Eagle Nature School. Learning seems
almost effortless, and at the end of each wonder-full day you’ll wish
life could always be this meaningful and fun.
Soaring Eagle Nature School offers year long programs on a once a
month and once a week basis outside in the forests and wild spaces of
Vancouver, North Vancouver, Delta and Coquitlam. Our mission is to
empower people to discover and share their gifts through meaningful
connections with the natural wo
You would be working with children from the ages of 6-18 (range to be
determined based on need and experience). Curriculum includes but is
not limited to: ecology, edible and medicinal plant studies, basic
outdoor/survival skills, wildlife tracking, bird identification and
behavior, navigation with and without map and compass, sensory
development games.
Qualifications
• Basic naturalist knowledge, ideally from this bioregion. You
definitely do not need to be an expert biologist, but you do need a
desire to explore just as much as the children, and to engage with
them in the learning process so that they can discover and solve
natural mysteries. We learn in and from the natural spaces we explore.
• Experience working with children in a non-coercive and supportive
way. This may include experience with: non-violent communication (or
other similar framework), a strengths-based approach, supporting
internal validation and self-directed inquiry.
Applicants must be 18 or older, unless with special permission.
Time Commitment
A once a month commitment (minimum), from September to June. See the
website for the exact dates of each program. Your experience and
learning increases with additional involvement. Days run from
8:15/9:15am-3:45pm. You are responsible for providing your own snack
and lunch.
Training
Soaring Eagle Interns will receive training as the year progresses.
Interns are also invited to attend any trainings that we offer
throughout the year. The training will give you a strong foundation in
Coyote Mentoring, as well as the basics of the Soaring Eagle
Educational Philosophy and Practice.
Volunteering vs. Interning
At Soaring Eagle, our interns are committed to their own learning
journey and choose to be a part of the planning of each day, as well
as the debriefing at the end of the day. Interns are committed for a
longer period of time to our programs and to learning the mentoring
model.
Accountability
Soaring Eagle Interns report to Program Lead Instructor.
Recognition
You will receive a free training session when we offer one during the
year as well as a Soaring Eagle organic cotton t-shirt. We are able to
provide a reference letter on request. As well, you will receive
ongoing mentorship from experienced instructors and valuable
experience in the field.
