ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW

Smart Commute – North Toronto, Vaughan (NTV) is a dynamic award-winning
not-for-profit organization. Our mandate is to improve commuter options and to
reduce traffic congestion in the N

orth Toronto, Vaughan and Northeast Toronto
areas. We partner with local employers, educational institutions, property
managers, and other leading organizations to provide transportation demand
management (TDM) programs that help employees and students reduce drive-alone
trips that result in traffic gridlock, smog, greenhouse gas emissions and other
impacts to the environment, community and economy.

Our activities include developing, launching and monitoring trip reduction
programs for medium- to large- sized employers; education and marketing, and
advocacy and policy input at all levels of government. We promote a menu of
options for commuters, such as transit, ride-matching, shuttle bus services,
vanpools, telecommuting, cycling and walking.

The Marketing and Communications Manager is responsible for the development and
execution of innovative, creative and results-driven strategies, campaigns and
promotions that are in line with the overall Smart Commute mandate and
objectives.

Salary Range:  $43,000 – 47,000

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES

Marketing:
• Support the program’s brand awareness and engagement levels by developing
strategic and tactical marketing, communications and outreach plans
• Work with Program Managers to develop and implement creative individualized
marketing programs and campaigns
• Lead the development of tailored outreach activities to engage commuters,
partnering employers and potential partners in programs and initiatives (e.g.,
commuter surveys, transportation fairs, ‘Lunch and Learn’ events, program
launches)
• Manage creation, design and distribution of Smart Commute communications,
marketing materials, and promotional pieces (e.g., Annual Reports, commuter
options guides, newsletters, e-blasts, media releases, graphics/print
materials, promotional messaging, internal/external presentations)
• Lead social marketing and social media opportunities
• Lead advertising and promotional opportunities
• Coordinate with Metrolinx and stakeholders regarding media relations and PR
support
• Manage and maintain the Smart Commute NTV and NET websites
• Assist the Executive Director with public policy and government relations –
representing Smart Commute NTV at relevant meetings, consultations and other
industry events

Administrative Support:
• Evaluate and maintain up-to-date records of media coverage, events, program results
and other items
• Monitor media for key industry news and actions
• Other administrative support including: arrange and prepare materials for
meetings, develop mailing lists, maintain contact database

QUALIFICATIONS

The Marketing Manager’s role is vital to the success of Smart Commute – NTV and
is best suited to an energetic, creative, positive self-starter with the
following qualifications:
• Diploma/Degree in marketing, communications and/or advertising
• 3-5 years of experience in the development, marketing and execution of
programs and campaigns, preferably in the non-profit field
• Background/interest in sustainable transportation and environmental impacts,
urban planning, and transportation demand management
• Strong computer skills in MS Office & Adobe Creative Suite
• Demonstrated writing, editing and proofreading experience
• Graphic design skills an asset
• Strong working knowledge of website Content Management Systems (eg.
Wordpress)
• Professionalism in working with a variety of media and stakeholders of
diverse interests and backgrounds
• Strong interpersonal skills and a passion for making a difference
• Strong administrative, organizational and planning skills
• Capacity to work independently and demonstrate initiative in a team environment
• Willingness and ability to travel to sites within and around North Toronto
and Vaughan areas

Additional qualifications:
• Experience using Salesforce CRM system
