Contract Information: The first year of contract will be probationary with the possibility of extension subject to satisfactory performance. Recruitment to this vacancy is limited to local status only.
Purpose of the post Under the overall supervision of the Supervisor, English Word Processing Unit, the incumbent will perform a variety of word-processing duties, efficiently handling high volumes of work including proofreading and reformatting of documents and carry out related duties as required.
Must be prepared to work night shifts and overtime on a regular basis.
Professional experience
• Minimum five years’ experience in a similar role involving the preparation of meeting documents.
• Experience in the United Nations common system would be an advantage.
Education
• Secondary education or equivalent up to University entrance standard.
• Secretarial or administrative training would be an advantage.
Language skills
• Complete proficiency in English is essential, including thorough knowledge of English grammar and spelling.
• Knowledge of other UN official languages would be an asset.
Other skills
• Advanced computer skills, including proficient use of MS Office applications.
• Fast and accurate typing skills.
• Good proofreading skills are a requirement.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Under the supervision of the Supervisor, English Word Processing Unit (EWPU), the incumbent will:
1. Proofread documents of the various different Committees and Sub-Committees of the Organization.
2. Format, check and prepare internal and external documents including graphs, charts, tables and equations in accordance with the relevant IMO document guidelines.
3. Check the accuracy of final texts for possible errors and omissions in grammar, punctuation and spelling.
4. Deal efficiently with high volumes of work and work independently under general guidance.
5. Be prepared to work night shifts and overtime on a regular basis.
6. In the absence of the Assistant Supervisor/Supervisor, perform related duties as required; and
7. Perform other duties as and when required.
