The role
As a member of the Senior Management Team, the Director of Health shares in the overall responsibility for the direction and coordination of the Country Office. The Director of health in his/her capacity is responsible for Implementation of all health programming in country, including the management of any health project offices.
Qualifications and experience
• Recommended a minimum of 8 years management experience in an NGO or a corporate environment, with firm programmatic and technical grounding in primary health care and public health. Experience managing large scale reproductive health, maternal, newborn, and/or child health, HIV/AIDS and nutrition programmes at national/sub-national level essential.
• Bachelors degree in a related discipline is required
• Postgraduate specialisation in public health or other health related disciplines is preferred
• Experience of developing and managing health programs supported by multiple donors, including USAID, highly desirable
• Substantial experience and knowledge of effective financial and budgetary control and securing and managing grants from major institutional donors
• Solid project management skills related to organisational development projects and international, cross-functional teams with a proven history of delivering results
• Ability to analyze information, evaluate options and to think and plan strategically
• Ability to work in a complex environment with multiple tasks, short deadlines and intense pressure to perform
• Excellent English writing skills. Demonstrated proficiency in writing high-quality technical and programmatic reports that document program direction and results
• An in-depth understanding of national and international health and development issues in particular in relation to children
• Previous experience of managing and developing a team and the ability to lead, motivate and develop others
• Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
• Ability and willingness to change work practices and hours, and work with incoming teams in the event of major emergencies
• Commitment to and understanding of Save the Children’s aims, values and principles including rights-based approaches
