Sampling technique

A systematic
sampling method was used to select the required sample size the health facility
runs ANC three days in a week and on each clinic day, an average of 150
pregnant women are seen. Therefore a total average of 450 women is seen every
weekend 1,800 every month which is our study population.

The first
patient on each clinic day was selected using random sampling by ballot, and
subsequently, the interval of 4 was used to select the remaining patients 45
patients were selected on each clinic day using systematic sampling technique.
In the event that the require sample size was not met for a particular clinic
day, the sampling continue on the next clinic day to meet the requirement for
the previous clinic day and the day in question. The study was conducted over a
period of 3 weeks.
The
questionnaire is divided into 4 sections under the following sub headings:
socio demographic data where the age where the age, ethnicity, occupation one
educational status of the respondent were captured.
The second
section addressed the obstetrics  data
which include parity, gestational age at booking and last child birth.
The third
section addressed knowledge on what anaemia is and the possible causes of anaemia.
The last
section of the questionnaire addressed the state of health and general
wellbeing of the respondents through their medical and nutritional history.
