The world’s oldest independent scientific body, the Royal Institution is dedicated to increasing knowledge of, excitement for and involvement in science and technology across current and future generations. Founded in 1799, the Ri’s unique heritage of research and discovery extends from the ground-breaking work of pioneers such as Davy and Faraday to the cutting-edge technologies of today and beyond.
With a new chairman (Sir Richard Sykes), new trustees and an ambitious new business plan already in place, we are now looking to achieve our ultimate aim of confirming the Ri as the UK’s leading centre for science education and communication. Reporting directly to the chief executive, you will play a key part in bringing this to fruition by planning and implementing an effective fundraising strategy, re-establishing and leading the Ri’s development function, and contributing broadly to our progress as a member of the senior management team.
You will be expected to demonstrate sound practical experience of successful fundraising at senior levels, together with a thorough understanding of marketing and corporate communications. High personal credibility and drive, a proven ability to operate in complex environments involving multiple stakeholders and a strong personal affinity for the Ri’s mission are further key requirements.
In sum, this is a real opportunity to help shape the future of one of the world’s most prestigious institutions, and to advance your own career in the process.
