REQUEST FOR EXPRESSION OF INTEREST TO
WORK AS MENTORS FOR AGRI-BDS PROFESSIONAL STUDENTS UNDER THE RICEM-SPARK
PROJECT-Short term consultancy
  1. Background 
RICEM, in collaboration SPARK-Rwanda,
developed an Agri-BDS professional program designed to offer a holistic set of
skills needed to deliver comprehensive AGRI-BDS to SMEs in rural and
underdeveloped economic contexts. The program comprises of five modules and a
mentored project as the sixth module in which the participants address real
practical BDS pro

blems with the potential and existing consumers of the
services as a requirement for admission to the planned Cooperative Supporters
Network, a body and community of professional practice.

The project is intended to provide
candidates with an opportunity to demonstrate competency for professional
accreditation and admission to CSN community of practice.  To achieve the
objectives of module six, the candidates will have the support of mentors who
are distinguished individuals and professionals with significant experience in
their fields of practice.
The mentors will each work with a
number of candidates allocated to them, and offer support to the students to
develop and complete their practical project over a period of 4 months. Details
of the duties and responsibilities of the mentors can be gotten from RICEM
during working hours. Alternatively, you can access the information from the

  1. Profile
    of the Mentor
The persons selected as mentors must be
eminent professionals and practitioners in their fields of specialty. Mentors
should be business practitioners as a senior manager, academic, consultant or
professional and practitioner in agribusiness or SMEs business services
management. The Mentors should be having a good theoretical and practical
expertise in their field of specialization and practice. It is the primary role
of the mentor to build sustainable, trusting relationships with mentees in
order to enhance their ability to start, maintain and grow their business and
learning relationship. The mentoring activities are undertaken through a range
of channels including face-to-face meetings (one-to-one or group), telephone
discussions, email exchanges and skype meetings. To do this mentors are require
to have the following competencies: 
  1. Managed
    a successful business or project, an entrepreneur or academician
    practically familiar with business management issues, SMEs development and
    agribusiness development.
  2. Excellent
    communication skills to include active listening and personal presentation
    skills
  3. Relationship
    building and networking
  4. Maintaining
    records and preparing written reports
  5. Successful
    hands-on professional expertise in key business areas including
    agribusiness, marketing, sales, law, finance/accounting, HR, IT, customer
    service, research, imports/exports.
  6. A
    good understanding of the theoretical, practical and contemporary issues
    of agribusiness management, cooperative development and SMEs development.
  7. Readiness
    to offer business onsite practical support to the mentee and make
    necessary travels as may be deemed appropriate.
  8. Having
    at least a master degree in rural development, agri-business, agronomy or
    any other related field
  9. Having
    experience of at least 3 years in agri-Business related areas
The mentors will be an integral part of
the facilitation and final accreditation of the successful candidates through
their guided support and mentoring report confirming the students’
participation in mentored practice which will be the basis for the review panel
to examine the candidates’ project reports.

requested to submit in hard copies their application letter to the Managing
Director of RICEM, CV and photocopies of their degree to the Administrative
assistant office of RICEM, Located at KABUSUNZU, former CENTRE IWACU, not later
than 04/03/2016 midday
