A medium sized tier
two multidisciplinary engineering consultancy has an opportunity for a Business
Unit Manager. The consultancy has a long term and solid structural and civil
client base and is well established in the NSW engineering market. The previous
owner and manager is due to retire and would like to find a highly experienced
people
manager who is a highly experienced structural engineer to take over.
They must have commercial and high end residential experience.
The consultancy has
30 staff in total and has been growing steadily over the past decade and is
keen to grow further. Most of the technical staff and business is focused
around structural design projects with about 15% of staff and projects are civil
projects that support their current structural designs. The business is dynamic
and established, it relies on long term relationships and excellent technical
advice. Their structural business includes high rise apartments, commercial,
industrial and some high end residential design projects.
This role would suit
a highly experienced Principal Structural Engineer or manager who has delivered
the above projects in the NSW market (this is vital). As it is a business
management role the focus is not only on the ability to be able to manage the
delivery of the clients designs but also to be able to manage and continue to
grow a profitable business in the NSW market. The key to the role is to be able
to manage, mentor and allocate resources effectively. As the manager of the
consultancy your key skills will be the ability to manage people effectively.
You will be able to demonstrate your commercial acumen in further developing
projects and clients as well as developing and identifying new staff members.
Due to the pace and demands currently in the NSW market you will not have to
spend much time on business development (plus you have a BD Manager) however it
is vital you have an established network. This business has a number of long
term relationships so it is a prerequisite you can manage client relationships
in a positive and profitable manner. You will enjoy mentoring your team and
bringing new ideas and solutions to the business around structural engineering.
