Summary:
The Medical Detailer is responsible for promoting PSI/Rwanda’s entire product portfolio, with particular emphasis on its pharmaceutical product line. The Medical Detailer and sales coordinator manages his/her territory comprising private sector doctor’s clinics and nurse’s dispensaries, pharmacies and drug shops, and pharmaceutical wholesalers. This includes identifying and making sales calls to doctors and nurses with high prescribing potential, pharmacies and drug shops with influence over customer product/brand choice, and high volume pharmaceutical wholesalers with the overall objective of increasing sales of PSI products.
The Medical Detailer and sales coordinator serves as PSI’s representative in the field and as such is required to develop and maintain product expertise and a positive professional relationship with medical professionals whereby he/she becomes regarded as a reliable and credible source of information related to PSI product categories.

The Medical Detailer and sales coordinator works closely and continuously with assigned private-sector pharmaceutical wholesalers to build their business with PSI Rwanda. Periodically, as need arises and based on coverage surveys, the Medical Detailer and sales coordinator will also be tasked to create new – and/or review old drug shops and office outlets for authorized products and encouraging linkages among these outlets and PSI’s pharmaceutical wholesalers.

The Medical Detailer and sales coordinator reports to the Sales and Distribution Manager.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
• Planning work schedule to ensure proper coverage and call frequency of outlets in territory
• Recording and reporting sales and calls made to sales and distribution Manager
• Coordinating training activities and promotional events with other PSI departments as needed (i.e. to enrol doctors/nurses in training program, conduct community outreach events, distribute and “decorate” outlets with POS materials, etc.)
• Serving as a focal point at PSI/Rwanda for pharmaceutical Wholesalers, including receiving/approving orders, coordinating delivery, monitoring aging of receivables in the Pharmaceutical sector.
• Selling and sampling product directly to doctors and nurses at clinics and dispensaries
• Conducting “Meet and Greets” at pharmaceutical wholesalers
• Imparting product knowledge to providers to ensure appropriate use
• Highlighting product features and benefits to create favourable attitude toward product category in general (e.g. injectable or oral contraceptives) and PSI brands in particular
• Addressing objections providers may have to product category (e.g. FP methods) or PSI brands to alleviate concerns they may have or reservations they may have to prescribing/dispensing/administering PSI brands.
• Obtaining commitment from providers to initiate and expand PSI brand use for their clients
• Maintaining regular communication with relevant PSI departments (i.e. training, marketing) and coordinates activities for doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and wholesalers in their territory
• Assures Department compliance with all PSI systems and procedures, including procedures for sales, travel advances and justification, cash and stock management to Pharmaceutical sector.
• Other tasks, as required by his/her hierarchical supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS
• Educational background in life sciences (preferably a degree in pharmacy or nursing)
• Sales experience and medical detailing are strongly recommended
• Driving license class B
• Strong interpersonal communications skills
• Good organizational skills
• Self motivated and able to work independently
• Computer skills particularly in Word and Excel spreadsheets.
• Knowledge of Kinyarwanda, French and/or English language.
